STOP SHOUTING. Type in normal, calm, collected, non-hysterical lower case + people will probably be a bit more willing to help.

Hi,
My N reg C220 was always a bit lumpy at idle Bought 3 years old and 19k miles, and I was told it was normal too. I'm afraid I never got to the bottom of it. Runs great other than that though. If you just replaced the cat, you got a year longer out of yours than we did with ours. I'm not a mechanic but if the pump randomly fails to kick in on startup, I would be looking for a sticky relay. They are lovely motors when they run properly but it sounds like yours may have been a little unloved. Worth persevering though.
good luck,
Julian

Hi Cazgav - Welcome to the foruum :D

Firstly, I would check your fuel pump relay... Obviously check the connections for corrosion etc and since they commonly go on W124''s. It might be best to "borrow" one from a donor car for a while as a test as they are not exactly disposeable items. (about £70 from recollection)

If that doesnt do the trick, it may in fact be your fuel pump itself - not difficult to replace and not expensive - just dont smoke while your doing it. (Eurocarparts or German & Swedish) Whilst you're down there, you may as well replace your fuel filter at the same time.

The above may also be the cause of your idling problem but without further information on what the symptoms are, its hard to tell....only to say that idling/stalling problems are often caused by the OVP relay.

My advice would be to find a respected Mercedes independent garage who know their stuff. The right person will be able to diagnose and sort the glitches you are having with ease and you will be left with a very desireable *reliable* car.

If you let us know the area you live, maybe someone here can recommend somewhere.

random fuel pump starting

had the same problem, it's from the ovp (over voltage protection). It is a silver relay located under a cover behind the batery.
