I have a 1993 W140 5 litre with the following symptoms when idling (or not!).
From absolutely cold (i.e. when left overnight) it starts first time and idles at very low revs (less than 500). I can engage drive and move the steering wheel without it stalling.
From hot or even from warm (left a couple of hours say) when I try to start it the engine fires first time and then stalls immediately. I have to 'two-foot' it to get it moving.
In both cases after it has been driven for a hundred yards it is fine, idles at 750 and runs as smoothly as it ever did.
Two indies and one main dealer have looked at it, cleaned the throttle body, replaced the mass air flow sensor and it still has them same symptoms. I'm reluctantly thinking about letting the dealer have another go (he was at least honest in saying that the MAS needed replacing but might not fix it).
Anybody got any thoughts on this? I could just live with 'two-footing' it but it leads to embarassing moments in crowded car parks. On the other hand £58 per hour for troubleshooting mounts up fast (main dealer discounted rate for cars > 10 years old).
