I too am on the “mooch” for a newer car.. have a few on my list. They are only just beginning to drop having risen a lot over the last year. Happy to wait. No rush and tbh, happy with what I have until then.

Don’t forget your existing car will drop too so the difference in cost should remain static. I am also looking to update to a 2018 SLC but I am looking now as I don’t think the actual difference in cost will not differ significantly :)

Would I be correct in assuming that there is an vehicle age difference that is the main problem there though Jon. The newer the vehicle the higher the price rise ?

I am only planning to go from a 2017 C200 to a 2018 SLC200. I am not sure how much the SLC has gone up but my C200 seems to be worth up to £2000 than I paid for it 18 months ago so it doesn't appear to be a big issue as the age of the vehicles are not too far apart. :)

I am a bit older than you Jon and I sure ain't taking anything with me, so in this respect a few quid either way is not going to be a major problem for me. :)

4 year difference, what I was looking at at £22k is now near £30k

A friend has a BMW M4 and the dealer is offering him £9k more than this time last year for a 2016 car

Tom Hartley is paying £25k over list for new Porsche 911 Turbos!!

The SL400 I sold to WWAC for £42,300 is now showing as reserved at £38,600 on CarShop so a minimum £3,700 plus costs loss to them! I figured Cox/Mannheim would have been able to read the market better, but I guess not my concern.

There are a couple of E400 convertibles that I am watching but not yet prepared to contact the dealers about. One has just been reduced by 1k, after a 500 reduction late last year. I'm still not prepared to discuss though as I feel prices will tumble further, especially as brexit and World events bring our economy down further.

More mundane....?
Must admit, with the little use its getting, I'm sorely tempted to sell and move into something more mundane for a while.
I get a valuation for the E63 every month from Motorway and apart from a dip in December, the price has been on the rise for a few months now.

That doesn't really narrow it down though.

I have no intention of selling or swapping, but find myself on AT from time to time just in case the car is crashed, stolen etc and the prices of some cars do still seem to be all over the place with some very optimistic dealer prices (though AT quotes them as fair!)

I sold my late wife's Mini to WWAC for £16,300 at the end of October and it appeared, about a month later, at £20k on a dealer's stock on Autotrader. That dealer still has it for sale but now down to £19k. Someone has made a profit but I’m watching it to see how low it goes.

Life is too short to drive boring cars…

Repeat the above until you come to your senses :D
I know. It's the best car I have owned over the years and it would be a wrench selling it on. I'm changing my mind almost daily.
It seems stupid to keep hold of a car when its so little used.. 112 miles in January. 6150 miles in 29 months. It's a lot of cash sitting on the driveway in the meantime.
I do intend moving up to a W213 E63 at some point, but I don't feel comfortable spending over £40k on a car, especially with such low use. I'd like to try a W205 c63 as well to see how they compare.
Decisions, decisions:confused:

I've had a similar car history to you as you're aware Roger, though my Cosworth was in a W201 and not a Sierra. ;)

I kept my W211 E55 for a good few years but, as it was being used as a daily, put too many miles on it though was still reluctant to part with it. It took a while to get back to Mercedes, via Audi and Jaguar but I got there in the end with the W212 (Taxi). This is one of the few cars whilch I still regret parting with as it was probably the most complete car I'd ever owned, even before all the tuning that went on.

I then got the W213 which, whilst being a good car and ticking most boxes, never gelled the same with me. If you do go for one, give it a really good test drive first, I just ended up acting like a yob in mine nearly all the time, it seemed to encourage it.

Can't comment on the W205 as I've never owned one, though have driven a few 204 including highly modified ones. They felt a bit small though this was probably with coming from the E Class.

You'll get a good price for your W212 but will still have to spend proportionately to replace it. What about doing what I do and buying a little runabout, keeping the AMG for best with it's "party frock" on (Polished to within an inch of it's life)? It's a good car and took you a lot of searching for, be a shame to lose that really...

Agreed... unless you can find a Hyacinth red one of course... ;)

I hear you Dave. After talking to you when you parted with the W213 I thought maybe it isn't the car for me. But I want to experience the M177 in some form before they are gone forever. I would definitely be taking a very long test drive should I be in the position to get one. I made that mistake long ago with a Cavalier SRi. Had a 10 minute test drive then regretted it on the hour long drive home. The seats were a killer.
As for the W213 being a yob car, I'm finding that in the W212. It just asks to be pushed:D

I think you are probably correct in the W205 C63 feeling small after my current car. But I love the look of them so again a decent test drive should show the way forward.
As for getting another car, space is my problem. I have a two car driveway, 3 at an absolute push but the extra cost in RFL insurance etc doesn't seem worth it. And the E63 would get even less use.
Today I'm keeping it, it took a while to find what I wanted in the spec I like and its a great car I'd regret selling.
But tomorrow I might change my mind again.

Just checked and the dealer now has it for sale at £16,790. WWAC gave me £16,300 for it back in October and the dealer originally priced it at £20k in November.

Sounds like there might be a few dealers out there are going to catch a cold with overpriced used car stock.
