An old B-Class.
You should find one of these closer to you, there's nothing biker's like more than to talk about their bikes.

I live quite near to Squires - I always avoid going that way over the weekend - there always seems to be learners crawling along or organ donors, with a death wish on weekends. I suspect all the "part-timers" come out on a sunny weekend.

Yes most locals do, me included, all roads leading to Sherburn and the B1222 especially as it is their favoured route from Sherburn to the A63 and back for 'test rides'.

I’ve been a couple of times but I’d rather ride than stand around and mostly ride solo less racing that way

I passed my bike test back in 1968 but haven't ridden one since the early 70's when I started driving cars.

Not that I have any intention of doing it, but could I legally buy a big bike and ride it without further instruction? (I would be mad to consider it even if I wanted to)

I recently got provisional motorbike put Back on my licence. I would need to redo all the new tests now though I reckon.

I passed my Motorcycle test about the same time as you and hadn't ridden a Bike since probably about '75. In 2004 I became the Dealer Principal of a Triumph Motorcycle dealership. I decided I would just have a little go on a Bonneville demo we had to see what it felt like, see if the old feeling was still there. I found that after all of those years it was terrifying and it was only a Retro Bonneville. I instantly decided it was not for me.:(

We used to get these guys in to look at the Speed Triple and ask "What is the top speed of that". If I remember it was 162mph, they used to say "Is that all ?, a Honda Fireblade is ten miles an hour faster than that" and we would lose the customer because of it, a bit academic I would have thought but off they would go and buy a Fireblade, unbelievable

My BM dealer sold the same 1000RR 3 times in a week... as it was pretty much the fastest sports bike out there when it was new it was popular and expensive. So who could afford it was BAB’s (Born Again Bikers). These gents had much more money than skill so turned off all the traction control because they were hard. Straight down onto the M1 and when the front wheel comes down north of 150 mph in Lane 3 when you’ve just pulled on you wind it down get off at the next exit and take it back never to ride it again.

Brilliant bike but not for those without skill and recent experience...

I had full Termis on mine and an F1 chip, used to set car alarms off bumbling along the street :p:D at full chat going up the box it was awesome.
Above 90 it was rideable, below you felt like you’re holding the front wheel spindle and your feet are somewhere up by your ears.

Yes you could, in fact you could buy the latest 200 mph plus superbike - wouldn't last long though

I thought as much. No way will I be buying a bike of any sort. I would kill myself.

A fast bike is only fast if you fully open the throttle ;);)
