today i got back in my 230ce w124 and i couldnt turn the ignition key, the steering lock wasnt even engaged.. afetr 30 secs of wiggling i got it to turn. it hasnt done it before and when i got home i took the key out and tested it and it was ok the few times i tried. is it best to replace it straight away? and any ideas how much that would be? thanks alot

One cure, and it sometimes works is white lock grease, from a lock smith or MB. MB say it is always worth a try before replacing the lock or key. Do not use anything else.

That right, and you do it a few times, I use hypodemic needle to inject it. if you know someone with diabetes, ask them for an old needle.

hi, just to let people know, i went to MB and my friend was working in the parts departement (ususally doesnt work at that outlet) he said i might aswell change the barrel for peace of mind, he just chaged his, and with trade discount the new barrel was £40.
