- Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
I took the key out of the ignition barrel today after parking up, and the car wouldn't lock. (1997 W210 E300TD)
It turned out that the barrel, that normally when the key is removed makes that 'schlek' sound as something or other moves around in there, had forgot to do anything.
The solution was to start the engine and kill it, then remove the key at which point normal service was resumed.
Its done this twice now. The car starts no problem, and the remote works at a good distance.
Is my ignition barrel on the way out? I'd rather know now, and get it replaced, before I can't lock my car at night, or worse still I can't start it up.
