I have a problem with my central locking and ignition system on my 2001 CI80.I put the key in the ignition and various lights lit up on dash board but the ignition wouldnt start. I exited the car and closed the central locking with the fob and now i am unable to get access to the car again using the fob.i rang the dealer and was advised that if I use the key to access the car and the ignition wont start again then the alarm will sound consistently. i want to get the car to the nearest dealership for a diagnostic check, dont want alarm sounding for a 75 mile journey!!.
If i access the car using the key how do I silence the alarm?
I had intermittent problems using fob to access the car over previous few months.Ignition now a new issue.Problems only started after I got windscreen replaced, a coincidence??
Has anyone experienced similar problems.
Are ignition/central locking systems linked?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks for this Gary sorry didnt get back earlier.Out trying to sort car all day.
Now have access to car.!!!
Called out mechanic.
Got keys tested ok.
Mercedes had told me I needed a new ignition system/+keys, quoting £600 approx.
I replaced car battery about an hour ago, everything working fine again.
Here''s hoping.
Thanks again for taking time to respond.

Will your dealer not help out with the cost your car is only 5 years old and these things are supposed to last longer than that, worth a try, the company is making a bomb at the moment and they are very keen to keep customers sweet.

Gary
Never thought to ask!
just relieved to get on road again.(and hopefully not have to fork out £600!!! if this sorts my problem)
Might just send their customer desk an email.
I have a wdb203 VIN which has been the subject of previous threads in relation to a battery defect. But they have advised me i dont need a recall,I''m tryin to find out if all wdb203 were due a recall.
Thanks for your input!!

C18O Despair

I have put a new battery in the car as above.
Car continued to accept key for first few days, then intermittently but never in the morning but by midday (particularly on a warm day - coincidence?) it would accept key and start.
Parked up late monday nite, wouldnt accept key Tues morning by yesterday new battery was flat again???????????
Checked all electrics, no radio or interior lites etc left on.
When parked up Monday, thought I could hear like a very low droning noise from dash? or thereabouts??
Any ideas what could run a new battery out so quick and cause so many intermittent problems like accessing car with fob, not accepting key in ignition, when opening door the dash display wouldnt lite up and when it did key would be accepted.
Everytime I think the problem is sorted it reoccurs shortly thereafter.
Any ideas from anyone please.???
