Hopefully someone can put me out of my misery.

I am fairly new to Mercs.. and changed the HT leads yesterday.
When I took the HT lead off the Ignition coil, the lead appears to have some metal pokey thing sticking out  (that my new leads don't have).
It looks a bit like a metal fuse.

Is this meant to be there..?
-- I am wondering if that part is meant to be attached to the ignition coil and not the HT lead?
What does the coil look like on the top, and what should the lead look like (is it male or female)?

Thanks for any input.

The HT lead going from dist cap to coil is called the king lead.

At the coil end, it is male and has a metal fues like clip poking out, as you say.

Maybe your new leads did not come with the king lead ?

Are your new leads original items ?

I would only use original MB leads (aprox £30 per lead) or Beru replacement ones (approx £15 per lead).

Oh! definately came with a 'king lead' as you call it.., but the lead looks roughly similar at both ends i.e. female.

i wouldn't worry about it as some replacement leads are slighty
different, as long as the fitting are tight it is ok.

i replaced my ht leads on my 190 the other week and noticed
the same thing. i haven't any problem after fitting new leads

I'd recommend you use your existing king lead and not to bother fiddling with the new one, which appears not to have similar connections to the OEM lead.

The majority of the enhancement in idle and drive etc will come from the leads connecting to the plugs.

Well, I totally agree with you......... but, my problem now is that I've serviced the car; changed the rotor arm, dist. cap, leads (all except king), sparks, oil + filter etc.., and from cold she still takes quite a few turns of the engine to start. -- still starts first time, just after the starter motor have a go for a good few seconds.

In my eyes that leaves me with coil/king lead, and the king lead must be the cheaper to replace.
Do you agree?
