Hi guys, I'm back looking for a little more help if possible. I seem to be experiencing ignition problems. I had the electronic ignition switch replaced 6 yrs ago( hoping it's not this!), along with the batteries in the key fob.

Anyway..here's what happens..I can unlock the car with my key fob, no problem..maybe it's not as quick to respond with a nice unlocking sound..maybe slightly slow..but it opens.

Now as soon as I try to insert my key..nothing!

The key and the switch do not communicate. I have to lock and unlock the car a couple of times whilst sitting in it, and when I unlock the car I quickly insert the key and attempt to turn it. It is at this point that I'm able to turn the car over as the key and switch communicate. Once I have turned the engine over then the wipers starting wiping and the left indicator starts to flash of there own accord..all for a couple of minutes. It settles down when I begin to drive away.

So I suppose I have two problems! The main problem is the Ignition problem, and secondly the wipers/indicators operating of own accord.

Any ideas? Appreciate any help I'm able to receive.

Many thanks

I think it will have to go on STAR, its going to be hard to sort out what is wrong

Make sure that the end of the key is clean and also the red lens in the bottom of the switch

Hi Guys, thanks for your replies.

Yes Elgringo, I do have two keys, I've tried the other key...only when I took the car in to my local indie to have it looked at..they hooked it up to the diagnostic machine and couldn't find anything. I used the key that day..it was fine. Maybe I'll swap keys for a while and see what happens. I just hope it's not the EIS..this will be the second time in 6 yrs if that is so!

Never heard of the the GATE WAY...what and where is this?

Thanks Television..I do try and keep the lens clean..plus I only have two other keys on there..was always concerned about damaging the lens. This is very frustrating..and concerning..especially potential cost..and the risk of being stranded somewhere..mind you I do have call out cover, but, even so. I appreciate all your thoughts..past, present,....and future! Keep thinking for me guys..as I haven't got a clue! I trying to do some research..but not much joy the mo.

The chance of it being both keys is very small, let us know how it goes

Thanks Malcom, I shall keep you informed.
In the meantime may I ask what STAR stands for. I take it that it must be a diagnostic tool / procedure?

I've just bought a set of new batteries today from an indie..(2 in a pack)..they are blister packaged in an original MB packet..with the following code:- A 000 828 03 88. I paid a total of £7.80..£6.30 + vat.

I bought them although my inner being was saying don't do it(!)..they are well over priced! They saw me coming I think!
It's possible to purchase New Varta 2025 batteries online for £2.50 plus 98p p+p!
I don't know why bought them..I suppose I just wanted to try to get the situation resolved. Ah well, ya live and learn!
Anyway, I shall pop them in and see what happens..shall report back in due course.
Thanks to all.

Hi Guys, well, battery replaced and...no joy! Getting a little stressed and concerned now, I've just read the post by Benzy007 who seemed to be experiencing a similar problem, he seems to have resolved it by stripping the key fob. Question is how is this done as I've opened mine up, but the pcb is jammed into the fob, don't want to really force it out as knowing me I'd crack it.. How is it done guys..maybe this will help cure my problem..certainly regards the ignition side of things. Many thanks.
