ignition problems

hi,my mercedes e-200 has suddenly decided to not accept my key in the ignition.the key goes in,but its not making any contact.also the remote key will not lock the doors.
can some one please tell me how much i am looking at to have the ignition unit and new key replaced and fitted.and do i have to take it to a mercedes {rip off}dealership?
if it is the ignition unit,from where can i purchase it from and possible save some money and then have it fitted from a dealer...

Hi - I have exactly the same problem on my C Class - did you fix yours yet and what was the problem and the cost? Thanks.

Are you saying that your key does not turn in the ign lock and that the remote is not working did this happen at the same time, do you have the metal blade key or the plastic one
