Hi.
Have you tried moving the gear selector around as sometimes this can lock out the ignition.

just make sure - wiggle the gear stick and also do the emergency release thing - usually a ball point pin stuck intot he lever slot. then put back in park.

also check its not the steering lock... - wiggle steering wheel whist trying to turn key - NOT hard, but needs a firm hand.

Hi Ozzies

EIS (electronic ignition switch) fault is quite common but 500 quid sounds a bit steep has the dealer done a good will claim. what mileage has you car done?

Whats really annoying is that drive autherisation systems (DAS) and alarms are the things that cause most problems and its all designed to stop 12 year old little sh1ts smashing our cars up

What about the 4 year manufacturers warranty!!!!!. It doesn't matter whether you bought the car here or in germany they still give all there cars a 4 year warranty.

They are, it's all a question of who imports them! MBUK give you a whole extra year's warranty so that you are getting something in return for the thousands of pounds more you pay for the same car if you buy it from them. Mmm, tempting... not!

That ignition problem was a very common one over here in Ireland.

A word of advice, if it happens anyone even once go for a replacement immediately to get it covered under warranty.
