I have a Mercedes CL500 2003 and got a big problem. The battery seems to have gone flat so I can't open it via the remote. The emergency key will not open the driver's door and I can't get into the boot either. Has anybody got any ideas other than smashing the window which I don't want to do.

Spray some wd40 into the locks and retry first . When trying the boot lock , lean on the lid whilst trying to open the lock .
Is there any chance the press and hold on the key fob will open all the windows ?
Key fob battery change ? Or try the other key fob if you have one ?
Hold the key fob very close to the drivers door sensor when trying to open it ?
Good luck either way

You really need access to the boot. Keep trying as suggested with plenty of WD40.
The battery in the boot is responsible for locking/unlocking the car (at least it is on our 230).

I've changed the battery in the key, can't find my spare one! silly me. The drivers key turns when I try that, but no good. I'll give everything a good spray and keep my fingers crossed

Just to add - if you can get access to the car start the engine (assuming the main battery isn't flat) and give it a few minutes. Then you should be able to open the boot with the remote/interior release.
If you need to jump start to get the engine running be extremely careful as it is easy to cause electrical spikes that kill ECUs.

Everything is sprayed up, just having a cuppa to let it get inside the locks then fingers crossed, I might be able to get in

Wasn't one of TV's tricks for this situation to vibrate the emergency key with something like an electric toothbrush, presumably to help the WD40 to get everywhere inside the lock and help free up the tumblers???

Failing opening the locks, you can also jack the car up and get access to the positive terminal on the back of the alternator to attach a charger.

You'll need to get access to the engine compartment.
The mechanical key should work, but there isn't much leverage to turn it with fingers alone and they do tend to seize up a little.
You will need to turn it back and forth quiet a few times, applying slight pressure at each extreme.

Once you've got in and have the bonnet open you'll need to access the main power in the offside fuse box to which you can apply power.

I did it by unclipping the fuse box tray (for want of a better term) the main battery feed is at the back nearest the windscreen.

You may be able to find a fuse location to apply power, but I was afraid of shorting something. remember you only need enough power to cycle the locks and open the boot.

Otherwise, as Alexander says, jack the car up and remove the engine under tray to access the alternator, unfortunately for me that wasn't possible in a multi-story car park!

I've got the boot key turning, but still no good yet as the door lock key turns as well but neither are opening. But at least the boot key has started turning, so fingers crossed, something may happen soon

I couldn't achieve anything with the boot lock, but did manage with the drivers door.
Good luck.

are you sure you are using the correct method for the door lock ? there is a knack to it , turn the key and as you do , yank the handle sharply , it takes practise to get it right everytime pal

No idea if a C215 is the same as a C216; but when my new battery went defective. Try as I might I could not open the door with the key.
On mine it turned out there was a totally crazy sequence of turning the key in the lock and then pulling the door handle a specific no of times. Pull too many times it wont open, pull too few and likewise.
At the time I thought hell I must write this down as a note on my iPhone, because even if its in the manual then thats no good ... er its in the car.

Perhaps a C215 owner could let you know.
