Seems almost to be an annual event now But the last MAF went in in september last year, usual symptoms, wont rev above 3000 , limp mode comes in after a few minutes from restart and because a new MAF is only about £10 more than a Diagnostic Read I just decided to buy one and put it in, Lo and behold its fixed it ,but why am I eating them ? Last one = 9 months could it be something like a Dirty EGR Contaminating it ? or have I got something else going on somewhere?
When I put the 2nd one in I made sure it was a merc original from the Dealer
( no ECP Patterns ) same with this one, when I bought it they offered a diagnostic and if it was only the MAF............. they would have replaced it free, but if it wasnt.................. The Bill could have run up ( at £110 + per hour or whatever it is now ). I thought I'd stick with trying a MAF and then Indie if it didnt sort it, but it did, and she is back with all her oomph again but this MAF may last less than the last as per the trend .
Any Ideas what is causing this Car to go through MAFs at that Rate ???

It may not be the MAF. lots of other things on these cars to cause limp mode, you really do need the codes read

Have you still got the old ones, try cleaning one and putting it back in.

Its fixed it for now:) but what kind of Fault would shorten the Life of the MAF ?
Either its being fried slowly electronically from something providing its voltage or its being contaminated by something entering the aircleaner box upstream of the filter
Presumably for a code reading to lead to a proper diagnosis I will need 2
One with all the current ones in ( including the failed MAF )
One after they have been cleared to see if anythings still not right .
Could I do this with a DIY Code Reader if so which one

Nothing is as indepth as a STAR machine for a Mercedes. It may be £10 more for the Mac sensor but it seems to have cost more in the long run as the problem is not solved. See if there are any other indies local to you who can check it for you
