Hello All, I am a new member to the site and also to my SL320.

This is probably a dumb question but!
Having collected an SL320 V6 Auto (1999) at the dealers and having been given a “quick” explanation as to how things work, I disappeared off only to find that I did not ask where to plug in the immobiliser re-set key. At least thats how it was described to me.

I have looked & looked but can’t find the socket for it! Anyone any idea where it’s located.

Thanks & merry Xmas to all - Mike

I had an SL320 and certainly didn't have anything like that. It must be an aftermarket add-on.

Unless somebody knows better.

As Helen above,, 1999 320's do not have a key like that anywhere.

Hello,MagniMike. Can we assume that your new car will not now start?.If so,a phone call to the dealer may be appropriate.Sorry,I know it may be next to impossible today and at this time :(.However,if it starts and goes-bearing in mind Helen and Malcolm's answers-is it possible that you have been given an immobiliser key that belongs to another car by mistake?

Hello Jay Gee
Actually everything is working correctly, I was trying to prepare myself for the day that I might have to use the key. It came on a Mercedes keyring, but can't say if it started life there, as far as I can assertain it is not an addition but part of the original spec. The manual makes reference to a black key, but if it's this one I can't tell. A little difficult to get back to the dealer at the moment as I live in France and they are shut down for the holiday period, will try again in the new year.

Tks Mike

It looks like a key thing for a Citroen, that you have to plug in to start the car. It is not an MB part at all, so happy motoring

Not sure when the immobiliser changed, but have a look on the drivers side door pillar, below the dashboard. My 1998 has little lock-like fitting there, for the MBSS 2b system.

1996 was the first big change over to an MB alarm on all cars, the 99 car here was released in 08/98 and did not change from that point on to the end of the run in 2001

Its still like nothing that I have ever seen before, and I knew my 129 well.

The only thing that I can say is there was a little socket on the side kick panel at the top near the dash, that I never worked out what it was

I had EXACTLY the same thing on my Vauxhall Cavalier CDX.

Plug it in, wait for it to beep three times and the engine would start.

Is there a reset under the bonnet? On a few cars I know of, you have to turn the alarm/immobilisor activation off under the bonnet, namely Mum's Peugeot 405GLXTDi

Now there's a thing, I have just bought an SLK230 and I have exactly the same key thing, and nowhere to put it (ooer missus) I have it booked into my independant Merc guy for a service, and I was going to ask him.

Hi Magnimike, I have just looked and mine is situated in the right side kick panel, and is roughly in line with my right knee when I am sat in the car.
Hope that helps.

Well there is nothing in WIS or the handbook or anywhere else for that matter, but as I said on my car there was the little socket on the kick panel, just as mercmadjim says

Immobiliser socket found !

Hi Mercmadjim/SamT
Exactly were you said it was! difficult to see though. But yes it's there with a little red re-set button just above it.

Thanks to everyone in this thread - Magnimike

I must be stupider than I thought.I'm obviously missing something fundamental here! What is this key for -it doesn't seem to do anything ,as the car still works without it.I'm familiar with the jack plug system on Vauxhalls and some Jeep Cherokees, but they were immobilisers.Help

I do not have a clue how to, or when to use the key, I have read the handbook but I am blowed if I can see anything about it, but I am booked in for a service next week and will ask the mechanic, as soon as I know how/when to use it I will post it up.
