What emergency spares / cash / parts do you keep that bitter experience has persuaded you to have with you at all times - and why ?

Pound and Euro coins for Supermarket trolleys. Plastic bags - again for Supermarket shopping - I resent paying for them.

An 18" Breaker bar and 17mm socket for when the wheel nuts are reluctant to shift.

More plastic bags.

Old jacket - hi-vis. I've actually got a couple which I use 'work wise', so would be in the car anyway.

Road Atlas. UK and Brittany.

Vehicle handbook together with Breakdown Service contact details + CD's, for when I have to await them.

Wet wipes. I have a dislike of passing a KFC without partaking.

Did I mention plastic bags?

Just four supermarket shopping bags, bottle of water and some tissues (Bird s**t), a torch, A-Z, microfibre cloth and some sweets. :)

Thought of a few more. Cable Ties. Regardless of what has become damaged/failed (exhaust system excepting), if anything becomes loose/falls off, they are an ideal 'get you home' solution. A trick learnt through working in Transport.

Torch, of some sort, obviously. Why flatten the battery of a Smart Phone when it may be needed for other matters.

Spare bulbs to keep the Gendarmes happy. Regardless of the fact that they came in a container as an Austin Metro 'pack' many decades ago and unlikely to be usable in a Merc anyway.:)

A disposable camera. It came as part of an 'Accident Kit' when I did some work for, although never employed by them, Eddie Stobart. Similarly, along those lines, I also carry a 3m tape measure. Not just for 'measuring up' in the event of a collision, moreso that I know where to find one should I need to.

Did I mention plastic bags?:D

Bulb set, compressor, jump leads, tow rope, first aid kit, vizzy jacket, poncho, pliers, couple of screwdrivers, adjustable wrench. Hadn't thought of cable ties but that's a good idea

Bulbs, zip ties, hi Viz, screwdrivers, spanners, socket set with male and female torx bits, multimeter, jump leads (129/210 only), i980, old piece of /canvas or carpet on boot floor, boost control valve (smart only), tyre repair kit, small compressor. Thinking about CPS for smart/210/230.
Most of this kit is in a bag moved from car to car to car as required.

trolley jack, spare gearbox, brake calliper were additions in my first owned car, a Viva HB. But I did do 120k miles on L plates as was never at home to take me test  Saw some lovely parts of the country on non motorways as I kayaked each weekend from Scotland to North Wales, to Yorkshire, to Devon. All good fun.

Oh yes forgot trolley jack. So much easier than using normal jacks.

Most importantly, SUNGLASSES!
