This last few days has got me thinking about the water drains on MB cars in connection with the front air intake where the drains block and blows the heater motor.

This was never a real big problem on the 201 or 124/126.

With the start of the 202 and 140 the problem seems to have started, and by the time we get to the 220 some serious mods have to be done to rectify this problem.

I have sent out so many instruction for cleaning out the drains it is almost unreal for all of the newer cars.
Many cars including Volvo do not have any problem in this area, so is this a move on MBs part to get work, no attempt has been made in the last 15 years to alter the design or give any easy access to the air intakes.

I think that it is a poor job if this is the best that they can do

So, it may damage their reputation, but they are determined it should not be a drain on their profits?

It was the sheer amount of how to fix it papers that prompted me to put this up. Just to put an expensive motor in a box that fills with water every time it rains is not exactly good is it

Yes leaves seem to be the main reason.. it is also possible that many of the older school mechanics would have known about this problem and cleaned these as a matter of course during a service.. .. plus also i think more and more people are now allowing trees to mature and grow more therefore maybe causing more blocked drainage run offs.

And more and more people have trees with tree preservation orders meaning not a lot can be done with them.

Troble is, you never know about the problem untill you find water gushing into the passenger footwell - well that's when I found out. Or rather when my friend told me the car was ****ing on her feet.

I blamed it on the fluffy pollen stuff that covered London earlier this year. Result, one very wet CLK.

I've pretty much accepted that we "the customers" do the R&D work for car manufacturers these days, but for something like this to have gone on for so long is really bad form IMO.

Out of interest are SLK's up to 2004 affected by this TV?

Might it be quicker to post something permenantly on the forum so people can go look it up?

Seems obvious - so I'm guessing there's a reason why you can't...

Copyright issues affect these things,,If I had the time sure I could write things out, but it just takes too long,,I am trying to do a sticky for the SAM and CAN systems,,but it all takes time

Wet footwell

What a great site !

I see from my trawl through the various forums that the wet footwell problem is well known and a right PITA. Having just bought a CLK320 Convertible which was dry it is now "moist". Is there anything that you could send me to assist in the clearing of the drains that are mentioned please ?

Yes a 208

Its a beauty and currently only let down by this issue. Also, if I may draw on you a little more, I have read about the Valeo valve/system. Is this fitted on the 208 ?
