Hi,

I'm having continuing electrical problems with my 1998 C200. Central lcking , electric windows, remote mirrors stop working; but are ok after taking out and putting back fuses.

Does anyone know of a independant MB garage in the Slough area?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

TC

Sounds like a relay to me.

The comfort circuit relay is in the boot I do beleive.

Will move this thread into Electrics, Tony, as you may get better response.

I've bought a new comfort relay from the local Mercedes garage. However I cannot find where it is in the boot.

There is a rely next to the fuse box in the boot but it is different to the new one. There is a relay to the left of the spare wheel but it is much bigger.

Either Mercedes have given me the wrong relay or I have not been able to find it.

Can somebody please help. I'm pulling my hair out!!

Its on the right hand side.

BTW did you change the fuses in the boot and under the bonnet. Its a good idea to clean the contacts with contact cleaner also

Tony, Hope this helps if all else fails

Have 2 tel nos for indi MB Specialists:

Godstone, Surrey: IMAT (M-B) Ltd = 01883 744781

Lingfield Surrey: IN AUTO'S = 01342 837836

Both these are ex Merc electrics tech's & may know someone in your area.

Failing that, do search on google for: "German & Swedish" & "Euro Car Parts" who are large chain parts stores to trade (for Merc / BMW / etc) & will have records of specialists & stores in Slough area.

Another long shot would be to seek out "Lucas / Bosch" dealers for thier reccomendations.

Hope it helps,
Keith.

Thanks for that.

I went back to the MB garage and they could not find where the comfort relay was in the boot!!

Apparently there is a grey area in the 1997 - 1998 C class where MB changed the electrics and mine was one that had been changed and does not have a comfort relay.

I booked the car in for a short diagnostic with the MB garage (they charged me £100 for the privalege!!) and they still could not pin point the problem.
They now say that I have two saparate faults -

1. Either the module or the electric window motor is faulty in the f/n/s door.

2. The PSE pump is faulty in the boot (this controls the central locking) and this costs £400 plus vat.

I have changed the fuses in the bonnet and the boot that operate the comfort controls.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Tony

This may help Tony, but then again its a different model

Back in 94 I bought a brand new E220 Estate & had a lot of probs with power windows / locking blah, blah .. stopped working & car was only 3 month's old!

Dealer had it in workshop for 3 hours & came to the amazing discovery that the "comfort" computer (aparantly 1 of 5 onboard computers dotted around in vaious places).

This, as I was shown in workshops, was situated under a screwed down inspection plate under the nearside passenger rear seat & computer box was about 8" L X 4" W X 1" thick, in black body with white edging connector that had 40-60 male connection pins.

Said they would replace it which they did, but 3 month's later it did it again!!

This time (further to a factory bulletin - so they said) a fuse was at fault .. !!

The idiot MBdealer never did find the real cause of that one & I was changing fuses every 2-3 month's for the next 4 years when I finally chopped it in.

All I can say is THANK GOD for the clever vacuum locking system, cos without it I'd have been locked out of my car whenever the fuse gave up!

Hope it helps
Keith.
