Independent service Bolton/ bury needed

Any recommendations for servicing around Bolton/ bury area. Have always used John at jbm but he has just sold up and called it a day, so on the hunt for someone new. I had used mstar one year but wasn't overly impressed so went back to John, thanks

How far are you prepared to travel?
SPR at Stockport are well thought of..

The indy I have chosen to use is an hour from me. They also don't open Saturdays, so dropping the car off and picking it up is a task in itself as I work away all week.
If you want a good indy, sometimes need to travel.

Thanks, just had a look on their website and they're booked up for nearly 2 months which is a good sign, but not taking on any new customers.

There used to be Greenvale, originally in Whitefield, then Swinton but not heard anything about them for a long while. I've tried a quick search for them but there doesn't seem to be anything current available.

I've heard of the next couple but never used them, so a bit of research may be prudent: -

Mastertech Assist Ltd, Droylsden
Mercaid Manchester Ltd

A bit further afield, there's MB Tech at Warrington who used to be highly recommended on here but I think they're also very busy like Sam at SPR.

You don't realise you have a good one till they're no longer there...

I fell out with Mastertech years ago when they charged me 4hrs labour on a job on my Smart Roadster that MB only quoted about 1.5hrs. Apparently the smell of petrol after they'd replaced the fuel pump was due to me over filling it & nothing to do with them re-using the big O ring that sealed the pump to the tank. Funnily enough it didn't leak fuel after I fitted a new O ring.

Just an update, SRP looked to be favorite but not taking on new customers which is a good sign. So after a bit more searching I came across Eviva in Heywood with very good reviews. After having a chat with them I booked in for a b service and also gearbox service. Prices were about on par with what John did and they have merc access so can update service history. Service all went smoothly and both seemed genuine guys, ( on of them had worked with John) they found a broken spring so re booked for that to be swapped, they gave different options on genuine/ pattern spring. All in all very happy and will be back next year.

I drove up & had a chat with them ..... my car will ask for a service in a couple of months so give them a go then

Paul at MPH Prestige - Rochdale.
Equally good.

There are at the very least 2 more inside the M60 who are down to earth BUT have not yet used them. (Mercaid and BenzAutomotiveIndependent)
