Hello forum,
I've just joined the ranks of MB ownership having just acquired a 03' plate SLK 230k.
In the short time I had the car (two weeks!) I already love the car but, as with everything in life, there are a couple of problems.
Problem 1.
Last weekend, for no apparent reason the indicators stopped functioning when signalling left and right. The remaining functions on the stick appear to be OK and the indicators work fine with the hazard light switch and when the alarm is set.
I had Mercedes of Colchester run a diagnostic on the electronics and the car came back clear except for a faulty lighting control unit (or headlight switch). When told it would be £358 parts and labour to fit a replacement I nearly fell over. Is this a sledgehammer to crack a nut or is this likely to be the problem. I should trust Mercedes but I thought best to check on here first
A headlight blub has also gone but I think this happened before the indicators went.
Problem 2.
Not electronic related but to save a repost:
When I bought the car I thought the engine sounded a little noisy at idle but, as it was the correct spec and low miles I went ahead. Having had the car with Mercedes this week they have traced the sound to the supercharger and the camshaft adjuster. Its 4 hours labour to strip down and inspect both parts before any repairs are carried out.
The car is on 20k and appears to have had very little use in the past 12 months. Do you thing this noise is related to the lack of use, and therefore should I leave it for a short while after the service next week to see if it improves, or, do you think its worth having MB strip the parts now. MB didn't think there was an immediate problem but couldn't be sure.
Has anyone on here experiences similar issues regarding noisy superchargers etc… on low mileage cars?
Many thanks in advance. J.
