info wanted please

hi guys im thinking about trading my t reg rover in for a m reg mercedes c200 2 ltr esprit which is auto has done 149k all black or a e190 in white g reg auto 2 ltr im wondering on the tax for these this year and next and also what to look for etc as i have never had 1 before.

As both cars are pre 2001 they are subject to road tax based on engine size, not CO2 emissions and for anything above a 1.6 this is currently 190 per year and typically seems to go up 5 or 10 quid each year. Theyre not affected by the retrospective rate rises announced recently.

I also went from a Rover to a merc recently and am very pleased i did, there should be plenty of more technical people on later to suggest what to look for which should provide useful as tehy are very different cars
