As above

I didn't bother putting it back in and going to get it towed on monday to an indie.

the injector looks new

any ideas on cost/reasons for happening.
could it be reused clamping bolts

Cheers

sounds like it could be expensive if it has damaged the threads on the way out. How old / miles on the car? Have the injectors been replaced and simply not tightened down enough?

if i may say so these injectors never come out, without the help of a hamfisted bodger. the new injector is a clue!!

someone has possibly overtightened the bolt and it has either snapped, or pulled the threads.

these are tiny little m6 bolts and the injectors and bolts need to be fitted with everything scrupulously clean and all the carbon removed from the threads (this is assuming the 'old' injector was blowing). the bolt itself is a streach bolt and has an angular torque setting, the washer and bolt need replacing each time, and injector seats need checking for damage caused by blowing. an easy job to get right - or wrong sadly.

I take it it is an injector as opposed to a glow or heater plug that has blown out...

that sir is a piece of string question, unless the bolt has simply come unscrewed and all parts are clean, threads ok and injector and seat ok. then it will be a few minutes and a bolt and washer.

if, as is more likely, the bolt is sheared or the threads stripped, we are back to speculation about the length of otherwise unspecified pieces of string.

not necessarily, if indeed it is sheared it may come out ok with a little help. if the threads are stripped they can be repaired with either a helicoil or time-cert. this would ideally be done by a specialist but many garages have kits to do it. needs to be done by someone competent though...

Also possible you have damaged the spill pipe and the supply pipe as well ..depending on the ferocity of the blow out

Just got it done. Just needed a helicoil and seal a couple of injectors. But it happened again to another injector. So the garage suspects that the other injectors have been messed with. So they will helicoil the others.

Could there be another reason why my injectors are popping out apart from the fact that there a lot of pressure in the system being a CDI.

You should have all the injector bolts removed and checked, it would seem someone has removed some if not all of the injectors and retightened the old screws without cleaning the threads and basically ruined the thread and the grip

Nope, someone has cocked up the threads in an earlier job, not that difficult to do as the head material is so soft..

A well fitted heli-coil is an excellent repair.

In fact, it's fairly standard aircraft practice to use wire thread inserts from new, and never to use the aluminium itself as a bare female thread material.

It seems to me that these CDi injector clamp bolt threads should have been fitted with wire thread inserts from day one.

An ex ML270 owner I knew had one of his injectors heli-coiled by a company working for a main dealer. It subsequently failed on the M4 and he just had time to get out before it went up in flames. The dealer provided him with a new 211 for months and months until it was finally settled.
