Hi - I hope someone can help - I have a problem with my 2006 Viano Diesel injector wiring. I recently had the No1 injector replaced as it was not firing. The mech noticed their was damage to the wiring near the injector and improved the connection at the soldered joint. I have had the same misfiring problem re-occur and have replaced the plug to No1 injector. The problem still is their - not firing on No1 injector and the fault shows as No1 injector with open circuit.

I presume there is another break somewhere in the loom but cannot find anything and all the other injectors are fine. I notice on ebay that there are some injector plugs for sale with long leads pre-soldered onto the plugs - is it possible to re-route the wiring for the injector direct to where ever the lead goes to?? If so, where does the wiring for the injector go to??

Any help would be appreciated as the Viano is now in the garage and I fear the only solution would be a replaced injector loom - and that might/will be very costly.

Cheers John

Wires is wires and it's very simple to work back to a good section with a multimeter and splice in some new ones with connectors.

As an example only;

I would 1st compare the resistance across injector 1 to that of another to be sure the injector solenoid isn't faulty.

Wiring is direct from injectors the the ECU plug.
The ECU is within the under bonnet fuse box, the 2 plugs to it are obvious with the lid off.
I'm assuming yours to be the 646 4 cyl engine and I would expect the wires to go to the 8 terminals 1,2 and what ever numbers are at that end of the larger of the 2 plugs. But confirm as this can vary.
With continuity of 7 wires confirmed from injectors to the pins in the plug the remaining 1 should be obvious., and the wires are colour coded.

Thank you both for your advice - on this I might get the Viano back from the garage and try it again.

Thanks again - I will let you know how I get on.

Yours

Generally, the fault is with the last thing done.
So redo the connection that the mechanic soldered.

Something to keep in mind though, it's quite common for the output stages of the ecu to be damaged with faulty injector wiring, as ultimately they end up shorted.

If you get the same fault after sorting the wiring, I'd check that next.

Thank you all for your help and advice. I found the problem after I almost stripped the harness back to the ECU. I thought I would check the continuity of the wiring to the injector before going too far. I found that there was continuity in both the two leads by piercing the lead close to the ECU with my multimeter and testing to the pin on the injector. Both were fine - that led me to suspect the solenoid, after listening to your advice. I used the old age method of re-setting the solenoid - a few smacks with a small hammer - and low and behold - it started and ran on all 4 again as smooth as ever. Since then I have not had trouble with this injector since.

So thanks again for all your help.

Thank you all for your help and advice.
Very happy for you.
Apparently, putting the tip of a mechanic's stethescope onto the injector does pick up the noise of the pulsating of the solenoid.
Wish I knew this before.
