hI
Can any one tell me i have a 1997 C class 250 TD estate Auto done 135000 miles great motor just changed glow plugs and to do this had to remove inlet manifold in doing this i noticed that inlet manifold and all assosiated pipes were very thick with oily crap that could be scraped off dose any one know if this is normal or how to prevent it or more impotantly how it can be cleand as it must afect performance as it gose to turbo and you canot get inside the pipes is there a flued you can add or something

it is normal for diesels. Remove inlet manifold and associated pipes/air filter box etc and clean with isopropyl alcohol (approx £7 / can) or petrol.

If using alcohol type cleaner, make sure it is 100% dry before refitting, else the engine may rev up high when first starting
