Bought 2 new inner track rod ends. When fitted to the drop arm, they are very loose in the holes, is this correct? Bought to replace the ones already fitted as there were also loose in the drop arm. Whats wrong?

Cheers.

Hi, Thanks for helping
I purchased 2 new inner track rod ends because the ones fitted to the car were loose in this drop bar. I assume they were the wrong ones fitted, but the new ones are exactly the same. Very loose in the drop bar.
Cheers, Tony

These should be tight, check the ball joints arent running round with the nut as you attempt to tighten them...one way of tightening up up these champhered joints is to slide an open ended spanner (12mm) under the nut and tighten up whilst pulling ..down..in your case on the spanner, then when the nut is tightened against the spanner, loosen the nut remove the spanner then nip up the nut..

I think you will find there is an allen key recess on the end of the ball joint stem so you can stop it turning.

Smart + others :)
you might have the wrong drop bar, as 124 drop/track rods are bigger.

I once had to change the drop arm from the steering box on a Ford as the joint had been running slack and had worn the drop arm tapered hole into an oval shape.
If only one of yours is loose then maybe that's the case here, unlikely though if they're both loose.
