Instrument cluster on c class 2.5d

Please can any one on the forum help.
The Speedo and tacho on my intstrument cluster have stopped working.
With the ignition on the needles just sit there and vibrate constantly.
Have been told the cluster is u/s.
Have managed to get another from good old ebay.
But,have been told it needs to be coded.
Is this correct,everything else seems to work fine.
Its on a 1995 2.5d elegance,uk spec.
Any info would be much appreciated.

It may be that your needles are sticking to there stop pins, give the top of the cluster a whack as you are driving to see if that frees them.

Do check the voltage on pin 30 12volt ignition off and pin 15 fuse 10 in F1 box

12volt with ign on fuse 13 in F1 box

The functions that are taken out (info) of the cluster and put into the new one are.

1. Mileage.
2. the engine variant.
3. Country variant.
4. Special equipment. (level)
5. Special equipment. (ETS/ASR.


So there is a good chance that you can plug and play if you do not mind the above being possibly out
