Hi all,

C220d AMG Premium Plus.

The instrument cluster beinhd the steering when shows current speed as km/h. I want to change it to MPH.
I've read the manual, which says:
Press Home button on steering wheel
Scroll to SETTINGS and press OK
Scroll to Instrument Cluster and press OK
Then I get the DISPLAY UNIT SPEED and I can select either kp/h or mph.

No matter what I select, the display doesn't change. Any ideas?
I also do not see an extra menu item that is mentioned in the manual, that being 'PERMANENT DISPLAY' function.

Any advice appreciated.

As there isn’t kph markings around the Speedo then Mercedes in their infinite wisdom make it so the bottom display always shows kph. Some random Euro law advising we have to be able to show speed as mph or kph and Mercedes took it that kph always had to be shown.
With dealer level diagnostics you can code it out

mini does it the same way - its now the budget way to get both, as it is a legal thing, as Blobcat says UK cars must have the ability for both units to be displayed ... but its doesn't specify it has to be a grown up dial

@Dr Phibes, it sounds like the main dial is set for kph when you want mph but its not changing ?

Thanks for the replies guys. Ridiculous that you are shown the option to change to MPH in the manual when the option doesn't really function. So I'm guessing that Mercs in Germany/France that have speedos with kp/h markings around the speedo are locked to MPH in the Instrument cluster?

Thanks again.

cool thanks - so you have plain dials and the aux speedo set to be displayed - which will ALWAYS be the opposite units to the main dial regardless of what the main dial is using - that's what the aux display is designed to do (and why its "available" to be displayed - thus meeting legal requirement)

if you (can) change units on the car to kph, the main dial should re-calibrate to read 5/8 of mph (AKA kph) and the aux small digital display (to the right of gear selector view) WILL change to mph

the fact the main dial has the WRONG speeds in a bigger font shows you its really a muddle up of a dial -
we'd want 30 and they'd want 50 to be bigger - check images on ebay for mph dials, most would have 30 and 70 as the focus ones

Completely agree Botus. I thought it looked odd with 20 / 40 / 60 in a bigger font.
Reason I wanted to change the digital kp/h readout to MPH was the Mrs complaining when she wants to quickly view her speed when going through speed cameras, it was easier to read the digital speed than the dial. My argument with her to just keep below 50kph was dismissed immediately as I was to idle to change the settings :D

Thanks for clearing this up guys :)

have you double checked the trip menus ? as I toggle up through these (different merc model) - mpg ave, speed distance / range to go / I then have mph digial speed display

this became normal ? and on later car's they left this view set at what the driver last had - whereas mine defaults to nothing
