My car insurance is up for renewal very shortly, currently with RAC, who want £560 for 50 year old, with max NC and protected policy. Has anyone recently experienced your own recent renewals at good rates, or recommend anyone, that I may try for cheaper quote, before I randomly troll through the yellow pages.

I found Swinton were the cheapest. £425 with 9 years NC and fully protected. Being a broker they find the best deal around, but also get to speak to a local agent, not a call centre.

That does seem high for a C200 - do you live in a "high risk" area, and is the car parked on the street overnight?

I found a policy I'm happy with (not the very cheapest, but they do stuff like automatic courtesy car cover etc) using Frizzell (aka Liverpool Victoria). They give discounts to many employee groups
http://www.frizzell.co.uk/
and I qualify for CSMA (Civil Service Motoring Association) as Mrs Rory is a civil servant. They also run WhatCar's insurance, so maybe get a quote through them. They seem to be either pretty competitive or stupidly expensive - hope you're in the former group!

I'm paying about £360 for a C270CDI and I'm 49. That's with the minimum £100 excess and guaranteed (as many claims as I like) NCD.

ETA: You can try SAGA now :)

Further ETA: - I just read your footnote again. Is this for the E55 (I was thrown by "C200sport (current))"? If so, then the premium seems pretty good!

If your 50 try Saga, I know their is a bullet to bite, and a certain stigma to be overcome, but I pay £315, fully comp with protected no claims. The car is garaged and I only do 10,000 miles per year, oh and I do not have business use. But worth a try!

The group 20 SL is £425 with MB insurance and £725 with saga, a very individual thing

I thought mine was cheap,

Group 16 or 17 £400, full no claims, protected etc. aged 34. Cheapest thing Ive insured for years.

try confused.com & screentrade the type that search loads and then ring some with prices. I play one off against the other until they cannot get any lower...

Try Marks and Spencers insurance (don't know who underwrites it), RAC full cover (inc recovery and home start) included so if you do the sums it works out quite cheaply. The RAC even let me suspend my membership while I'm with M&S.

I have had great service from Frizzell for many years - had 2 cars on one policy in the past... Currently £500 for Fully Comp, Biz use for both me and the boss.

Used confused.com to get extra insurance, new policy for the SEC last year - £320 with NO no-claims discount - inc biz use) This site seemed to give me the best options.

had to hunt around for the Chevy - Not many insurers wanted to insure it for biz use.

NB - 39, living in the sticks at the bottom of North Yorks.

E-sure quoted me (48 yr old, North Staffordshire) £204 fully comp on a 1997 E300TD! my current insurer, Budget quoted £267 for the renewal of my existing policy, I always search for insurance quotes by using the confused.com search engine, they are always very competitive.

By way of a comparison, I just paid £1100 for third party only cover for my 17 year old son in a 1100 Fiesta!

Hastings £252.00 fully comp, 10k a year, however I am 66 with full NC bonus, but with one speed camera tax fine which bumped it up by £25. SAGA wanted £420 for the SAME package. The car is an 1998 E240.

Incidentally I have just spent a lot of time looking for travel insurance and again SAGA were the most expensive and Barclays, yep the Bank!, offering the best deal at £168 for a four month trip including SCUBA cover. I initially used one of those sites that is supposed to 'find' you the best quote but I did not so I went through about 20+ individual company's and did my own comparison.

The moral is Spend time to Save!
