On the way to York yesterday my son (15) said I’ll be driving this in a few years (s63) I said you can’t get insurance son, anyhow we looked it up last night and guess what 3 insurance companies will insure him at 23k per year

I did a check on my 911 when my eldest became 17.. it was £67,000 for the year…

We both had a shock the other day , both renewals came in at nearly half last years , both at £130 each car . Couldn’t believe it , might be the cars ages have suddenly mean they aren’t worth anything ?

Trouble is, it will become a race to the bottom on good to fair risks, then losses for a couple of years and then +50% for a few years - rinse and repeat.....

Maybe , but I’ve been with them a few years , normally the renewal is higher and I have to ring up and try and get it down to the year before price . This time it just halved on the renewal . Over 40 years of insurance I’ve never seen or heard of this happening before . Needless to say I bit their arm off accepting .

Saga were always good for me for first business, then upped the price massively come renewal. So they never really worked for me and insuring an E63 as an old grunter gets expensive.
I show no loyalty to insurance compaies anymore. If they have a decent reputation and are competitve they get my money.

No and neither have we hit a significant birthday , nothing has been altered on the policies at all . Cars and us are a year older

Maybe SAGA operate ethically after all but it might be down to good old market share problems.

As an aside I’ve subscribed to the Times newspaper for longer than I can remember this year they decided to hike the price of a full subscription by 40% to just shy of £900 pa. I rang them about this to negotiate and they weren’t interested but they would offer me a digital subscription which I didn’t want so cancelled my subscription. The irony of all this is that I now quite enjoy reading the Daily & Weekend Mail and can’t help but smile when I see unsold copies of The Times on the shelf in our local newspaper shop unsold at the end of the day - to me this is not good business.

Just had my renewal quote from LV. 25% lower than last year (nice surprise!) 'like for like' for 2 cars fully comp, rescue & recovery etc. Only £700 for 12 months @6k miles per year with full NCD, no convictions. Needless to say I'll stay with them - too much hassle to shop around for an even lower quote ...

Maybe some motor insurers are getting the message that they retain customer loyalty by being fair & competitive rather than hiking premiums un-necessarily?

Welp, yearly renewal came through for the SL, cheapest staying with Admiral at £877, around £270 cheaper than last year. Shouldn't complain I suppose given my age but still made my eyes water a bit.

I've never had a realistic price out of Saga. What bugs me most is having bounced off Company A's renewal price and gone to Company B, the small print tells me that my insurer is actually Company A......
