Hi all,
New to the forum so if im posting to the wrong place then please advise. I have a 2004 c220 with the w203 engine type. I have had this car for about 8 years now and have never had a problem with it until now. A few years ago during a check up the intake manifold turned out to be faulty. That was replaced with an after-market manifold and the car ran just fine. Recently, the car started going into limp mode. Well, after a thorough and already expensive check up, the manifold again is faulty. I have been taking my car to the same mechanic ever since I have had it and he does a good job and works with acceptable prices.
According to his diagnosis the after market manifold has the valves (and the axis they spin on) made of plastic which wears out over time leading to a gap and therefore a pressure loss in the engine. He has checked his scrapyard connections and said that he is not able to find original parts from the scrapies. Which I think is acceptable considering that the car is 17 years old. He can only get hold of the after market type manifold. But Im a little concerned that on the long run it will again lead to this same problem. And I cant have the manifold replaced every 2 years or so. I love this car but im seriously considering selling it after the repair jobs are finished unless i can find a decent manifold and fix this problem for good.
I wanted to see if perhaps others have also come across this issue before? Is this a common problem for this model? Are after market manifolds really made with plastic valves?
Are there any permanent solutions for this? Any ideas?
