My 2013 SL has the Intelligent lighting system. There's a warning sticker in the engine compartment saying the voltage is 25000 Does anyone know how this voltage is achieved, the only thing I can think of is it's similar to an ignition coil in some way. Also I presume if the unit needed anything doing to it eg removal it would be wise to disconnect tha battery.

Assuming you are referring to HID lamps rather than LED at that age of car, the high voltage is generated by the ballast. I always leave the lights off for a couple of hours before working on them, never bothered to disconnect the battery, as long as you don't have rogue people that will turn on your lights whilst your fingers are in there you will be fine.

Not to sure about the system as the side lights which are incorporated in the sealed units are LED. I had a Jag before this car and that had HID head lights but seperate side lights.

HIDs need the high voltage to create the arc, LEDs don't. No reason you can't have HIDs for main bulb and LED for sides.
