Please can anyone tell me if a scrapped W124 300 saloon's dash board dials, clock etc., are interchangable with those on my W124 200 estate, please?

I've been offered a variety of bits and pieces as spares, but if they aren't suitable for mine, its best I don't gather more junk. ;) (All I really needed was an o/s wing mirror. :D )

If the parts are interchangable, are there any other particular parts that would be worth getting as spares, being as the opportunity exists? Thanks.

The year does make a difference but basically yes

The tacho might read differently.

Thanks, Malcolm. Unfortunately, I don't know the year of the vehicle the bits have come off, just that it was a red saloon version with a 3 litre engine, but have been told 'about the same' year as mine. I suppose that if I take what is on offer for a sensible price, there's sure to be someone around who wants anything I don't need/can't use. (More clutter to add to the garden in the rear! )

Star - the one in my car could well already be a replacement, as that is out - reads 40 mph when I'm doing 30mph. The garage have yet to figure out why.

I thought that was the rev counter? Oh, and by the GO pedal, do you mean the accelerator? ;)

You have 3 pedals, it is the one on the right.

If I remember correctly your speedo is out as your car was an auto and been converted to manual

That's the one I meant - the accelerator! So what's this tacho thing? I don't dive it enough for a tachograph! pmsl

You do remember right, but the garage chaps have yet to work out how to fix it, and I won't let them put an auto gearbox back in it to solve the problem, which has been suggested. I prefer the manual for my job chugging up the dirt tracks and hills with a load on. It chugs along just fine as it is. ;)

This other speedo might be more suitable for your car, Ignore the tach, it gets to complicated

In that case, I'll get the lads to try it in my car and see.

If I knew what this 'tach' was, I'd know what I am supposed to ignore because it's too complicated!

It tell you the revolutions of the engine, if you knew what the rear axle ratio was you could work out your speed, ie if you knew that your gearing was say 20 mph per 1000 revs (tacho) then at 3000 revs you would be doing 60mph, then you would not need a speedo

Ah! In that case, you are absolutely correct, Malcolm, it is far too complicated for my poor old brain!

In truth, I doubt I have driven the car at 60mph or over more than a dozen times since I bought it. It's not possible on most of the roads I travel, and the old car isn't exactly a 'high performance' or speedy model. (But then, neither am I. )

However, I will ask the lads at the garage if they can work out the rear axle ratio etc., for me. They are fitting the spheres on the rear suspension next Monday, and hopefully replacing the wing mirror which someone clouted when it was parked. It has an air/vacuum leak somewhere behind the dash which must be affecting something, but I have no idea what, so I'll probably leave it to them to investigate that and decide what of the spare parts might be of benefit, and based on the suggestions received here that appear to apply, thanks.

By "Tacho" I believe he means the rev counter and the reason it MAY read different is that the 300 has a 6 cylinder engine and the 200 has a 4 cylinder . Depends on where the 'signal' for the rev counter is derived from but my GUESS is that there shouldn't be a difference. However, if there is a difference, then it would be pretty obvious - the displayed reading would be 2/3 of the actual engine speed.
That said, if I were you, I'd leave well alone unless you're getting it for £1. Your car's speedo & Tacho will probably outlast the car.
