Interesting info re tires

I recently had to change two tires on my '94 S280. Had quotes from various local garages and tire specialists of between £210 to £280 per tire. Probably about right as I bought one a couple of years ago for £210.
Tried t'internet and found www.mytires.co.uk which is actually a German company operating in virtually every EEC country.
They quoted a choice of 19 makes in the size I needed from £60 to £165 including delivery to a nearby 'partner fitting station'. Delivery was four days and the fitting charge including balancing etc was £12 per tire.
I ordered two Japanese manufactured tires at £85 each so a total of £195 including fitting - less than the price of one tire from the usual sources!!
Worth a try?

One figure that is often overlooked is the load index for the weight of the car, the S class requires at least a 98 figure, it is very important to observe this, for a blow out could happen when cornering etc due to the loading on that tyre

Thanks Malcolm - forgot to mention that. Mine were correct at 100 load rate and W speed rate. Cheers, John
