In the winter I came across a problem with my interior central locking I had to force open my central storage compartment to retreve my wallet. Since then I have had no need to open any of the interior compartments, until now. I need to get into the compartment under the back seats and the seats are locked. Does any one know were the " switch for interior central locking system" (SL owners manual 1996 page 122) is as it uses fuse 5 in the auxilary fuse box (fuse not blown). I was wondering if the switch had broken making the system unable to release the locking pins?? Can anyone help:(

All of the compartment locking on a 129 is vacuum operated

So will I need to change the pump even though the exterior locking system is fine? And why does the manual say there is a switch for the interior locking system. Is it just a generic fuse description for more than one merc. Thanks for your help.

The switch is key operated next to the sunglasses compartment above the aircon.

It sounds like you have a vacuum leak then - not uncommon as the hoses / Y-pipe connections can break. The centre console is easy enough to take apart - these videos should help:

Thanks sorted that problem now and opened the back seats, now on to problem 2. The next problem is the roll bar will not retract. I will post a new thread for this problem. Thanks for your help ADP
