1983 Merc 200 petrol.(130,000 miles) steep hills a problem, at the end of a steep hill she starts to stutter and die, but recovers if you can make it to the hill crest( this could be the angle of the hill or the extra effort). but appears to run ok on the flat.
I have changed the fuel pump and filter, but no joy, removing the filter reduces the incidences but not totally. my thoghts are:
1. carb
2. ignition system
3. timming
4. perhaps new rubber fuel pipe

I would really appreciate any thoughts, I'm hoping it is a common fault with a common solution,
Many thanks for any help, cheers Christian Mc

look for the obvious first.

check your spark plugs, dizzy/ dizzy cap/ leads. Look under the bonnet in the dark and look for sparks.

My father had exactly the same problem with his 1987 W124 200 - turned out that the engine was suffering with extreme carbon deposits, an engine de-coke cured the problem.

or a heavy foot

or a heavy foot can clear out deposits if you game enough. Find a large hill, at the bottom plant your boot and hold it in a low gear. You should see greyish carbon on the tailpipe.

Other wise known as an "italian tune up" lol
