Hi there, :)

Ref = Mercedes C 220 Automatic Diesel 1996.

My indicator has an intermittent fault in that the indicators will
operate for a while then suddenly stop responding.
They can be fine one day, then cease to function the next day.

If anyone has experienced this problem and can advise me how
I could rectify it I'd be really grateful.

Many thanks to you in advance.

Assuming you mean both indicators - Try flicking the hazards on and off a couple of times - If this solves the problem it is a dodgy Hazard switch - It cuts off normal flashers while hazards are operating.
If that doesn't help it is probably the flasher relay - unlikly to be the stalk switch if both sides are affected.

Gosh Bob, thank you for your speedy reply.

OK, I've tried the hazards in trying to solve the issue before,
but they too will operate one day and not the next.
And yes it's both indicator sides, I should have mentioned that.

So perhaps it is indeed the flasher relay.

I've actually tracked down a couple of Stalks on Ebay
£50 second hand & £75 new.
Then I came across this excellent Forum and posted in my message,
so I'm glad I held off purchasing one of them meantime till I track down
a relay switch.

Many thanks again.

Billy.

I have a hunch that a lot of Volvos suffer from this.

I thought it was BMW indicators that didn't work:rolleyes: Although after last friday's incident Mondeo indicators must fail regularly as well.

Mercedes; Volvo; BMW; Mondeo..... indicator faults.
Mmmm it would be kind of interesting to discover
just how many car models suffer from this nuisance.

Update and a further question

Just thought I'd give a quick update on my problem.

Six days ago I released both wing indicaters and discovered the rubber around
the bulb shell was rather dry and slightly corroded, so I cleaned them both,
and gave them a squirt of WD40.
That didn't have any effect but...when I gave the back of the electric side
mirrors and internal mirror adjustment switch a touch of WD40 and gave all
the fuse contacts a nice clean, my indicaters started functioning properly again.

Now that may only be coincidence, but 6 days without the intermitant fault
is very encouraging and a positive sign that all is now well. :)

However Hmmm, my windscreen washer and radiator warning lights are now
staying on.
I've checked both windscreen washer and radiator water levels and they are fine,
so the warning lights should not be on.
I did try the WD40 trick and cleaned the contacts on the electric sensor <sp>
on the top of the water bottle (I've still to locate the radiator electric contact) but
the WD40 had no effect this time.

So my question is, have any of you good people experienced the windscreen
washer and radiator warning lights fault who could advise me please.

Sorry for such a long post.

Billy.
