intermittent wiper not working

I have a 52 reg A class and the intermittent wiper facility is not working properly. I used to keep this setting on all the time and it kicked in when req. now when switched on it goes straight to normal wipe then when it is raining it goes to high speed wipe. Do I need a new sensor fitting or is it something that could be fixed at home?

Hi Martin and welcome to the forum,, this could be in the rain sensing part behind the mirror or a fault in the stalk.

If the car was plugged into STAR this would say where the fault was, an indie would not charge that much to do a test

Could be a dirty screen (over the sensor) and or worn wiper blades.

I had something similar just last week, wipers had a mind of their own! Cleaned the screen very carefully and was fine until it rained and after a short while crazy again.

Changed the wipers and now all fine again (wipers were approx 18mths old / 30k miles)

Smart + others :)
Disconnect the rain sensor by mirror, and the wiper should work with just the normal delay system.
