Internal Sensors? !999 SL320 V6

Not sure, of the correct name for these little units one each side of the windscreen. I am assuming they are security sensors to stop stray hands reaching inside the vehicle when the top is down. Trouble is the ones I have don’t seem to do anything, the passenger one has an LED, which illuminates when a hand is waved in front of it, the driver’s side has nothing. No alarm sounds when the car is locked and my hand is waved inside even when the LED is lit. Any ideas please how these should work.

They only work with the roof up or hard top on

Is not there a switch far left that turns them off

There is a small LED indicator that flashes when the car is locked and i assume it shows the alarm is armed. It can be pushed in when it also lights up momentarily, but dose-not seem to do anything.

I do know that one of the switches turns them off, I had a 129 1999 see what I can find

These ultrasonic sensors, work as malcolm says when the roof is up.

The light flash when it detects a object, so they are working. where the light is on one, the other side has a little grommet, which when removed behind is a tiny flat blade screw which when turned adjusts the sensitivity of the sensors.

If when locked and it doesnt light up when moving hand infront the adjust up the sensitivity.

if it does light up then the fault lies eles where.
