My Premium Bonds (30k) have produced 3.25% over 8 months, no one knocked on my door yet (9am on the 1st).

Other accounts I can get 6.5% with ease, and a chance of it going up again

Are you taking advice from Helen, Malcolm?

Sadly Teddy Bear I have tried long and hard with Helen, but the thought of her in a 911 changes things :(:(:(

Aw, come on guys, I only said I was thinking about it. I may well still end up with an SL yet as I don't know if I can live without my luxeries. Do n't resign me to the scrapheap yet. :(

Driving back from Watford yesterday in the SL does drive home the luxury angle, all I needed was someone in the passenger seat:cool::cool:

Get on the stock market. In 2-3 years I've made £30K from £50Ks worth of shares. I have a broker who takes a very very small cut. I think its tied up with my Grandad's accounts, but still thats a good return!

If you have the time to watch it yourself you can make some serious money.

Sounds great if you're a Stock Jockey , but it's not serious investment behaviour.

lol. If you're careful its not so bad. You can make money on those little crashes we had the other week. But I suppose you need to keep an eye on it constantly. Hence why I have a good broker :p

Better than mine Malcolm, mine have yielded a miserley 2.57% this year. But there is always the chance of hitting the big one !

I am advised that the chances are better investing the premo bonds cash in a high interest monthly account and buying Irish Lottery Tickets with the interest!

When I moved to Sweden I put the max into premium bonds, the numbers I had paid out on average £200 a month, I cashed them in on moving back to the UK and bought some more after the move, they paid out next to nothing, almost as miserable as the ones that I have now.

Risk verses Reward, it's always a dilema.

What makes you think that 4% after tax is unreasonable in today's environment ?

Of course the real return should be calculated AFTER deducting inflation at (say) 2% per annum.

There's no dilemma with sensible advice.

I personally think 4% is crap and am able to provide investments with a much better rate.

I would agree with the last statement if real rates were used.
