Just to let you all know that the new iphone works well as an IPOD in cars with the official MB ipod kit. Its fully controllable from the steering wheel just like a 'normal' ipod is.

Best bit though, in my opinion, is with the HFP bluetooth cradle, the iphone works seamlessly in the car downloading the entire phone book, including all contact numbers for each contact.

Both the HFP cradle and IPOD kit (plus other items) can be bought for less than a dealer charges, from the online shop if anyone is interested. www.comandonline.co.uk

i was thinking of getting one of those i-phones , but tbh its actually pretty naff compared to phones like the nokia n95 etc , also the way there marketing it sucks , u have to get a contract with 0'2 to use it , and my works mobile cant be transfered to it as they dont support business options. so i decided agianst it

Legoman,

Tell it how it is. I have to say I like it. It works very much like the ipod touch only with the phone part also. Very smooth in operation. Not sure how much better the N95 is it depends on what you want. My dad has the N95 and its quite awkard to use agree the camera is good but I have a proper camera for pics.

In what way is the N95 better (camera aside). I'm with 02 already on a high contract so thats not an issue and I use I tunes so my music could be put on the phone. Given you only generally keep a phone for 12-18 months battery being difficult to remove isn't an issue either.

Marketing wise? I thought the adverts tell potential users what it does quite well and to the point? As a customer in a few minuites I know exactly what the phone can do.

Sorry I don't have one but do like apple products, I have used one and I have also used the ipod iTouch which is basically the same without the phone. I've also used the N95 and currently own a Orbit which has been flashed and upgraded to windows mobile 6 with iTouch interface. My next phone could well be the Apple who knows in a few months other makes will offer 'similar' devices... I think LG have one already.

Cheers

problem is there marketing it as two things , it doesnt excel in either , dont get me wrong its a nice idea , but its niether the best phone , or the best music player , theres no flash player which isnt good when its got such a great web browser , it doesnt have a pay as you go in the uk so has ended up flooding ebay with unlocked usa ones which work fine until firmware upgrade then lock out , ive heard the screens particulary fragile , which given most of us drop our phones at some point in there lifes , isnt a good thing , i know you said the camera isnt a problem for you , but at the price it is , only 2 megapixel? poor by current standards. maybe in the future they will release a better one with experience , but there agianst a very strong market , nokia , samsung etc. locking yourself to one provider is a bad idea , totally bottlenecks your sales potential.

itouch with comand

Does anyone know if the itouch works with retrofits of ipod connectivity into the COMAND system. Has anyone tried this and if so what kit does it work with ?

Yes it does.

I've tested itouch ipods and iphones with the genuine Mercedes ipod cradle and they work exactly as they should.

You can buy ipod interfaces cheaper than the dealers here; www.comandonline.co.uk

Personally i would not trust any site where there are no contact address details, which is now a legal requirement for any online trading.

I rather not get shot ;)

However, seriously. It is a requirement of online trading and will put off many people from buying if they don't see these details. Being a Ltd company, the company registration also have to be listed. This also applies to all emails, both sets of details need to be included.

I'm unsure why Paypal Pro did not pick this up when the application was made as it's on their checklist.

Not being picky, just covering backsides (both parties). This is exactly the industry I have worked in for the last 12 years :)

Thanks for the comments guys.

All our details, including address, bank details, company number etc appear on the order confirmation email that goes out to a purchaser before they pay. We have been advised professionally by our bank.

In the light of the comments on this site we will contact our Lawyer and ascertain the exact requirements.

Yup, you (of course) are correct.

The required info is on the contact us page and in our T&C now, and inserted in the signatures of emails from our web mail system. It has always been on order acknowledgements.

Paypal pro didnt ask anything at all, just signed up with paypal, enabled api access, got the certificate and put it in the cart configuration.

HSBC did ask all of this when I used them as a payment gateway on another project, and wouldnt enable the payment gateway until they had checked it all and performed a test transaction.

To be honest, I just forgot to check exactly what 'today's requirements were and put them in place when configuring the shop details etc - mainly because of all the other stuff that needs to be done to start a business now a days :)

For those really interested, this is a good summary of information requirements at

http://www.bytestart.co.uk/content/legal/35_2/ecommerce-regulations.shtml

Thank you for pointing this out to us, I'm sure we would lose sales without it.

HI Alfie,

I have the fixed nokia 6310i cradle and checked the site out. There is another bluetooth unit available for this "ViseeO Bluetooth for Mercedes Benz" Would you know if this would be ok to work with the iPhone?

The viseeo now works well with the iphone. Full address book download included. Plus, the price has just come down by £50:)

I posted this elsewhere but here it is again posted in a slightly under better header.
I can vouch for that. I ordered a ViseeO 2000 for my CLS as I wanted something to work with the iPnone 3G. It was simple pairing and the cradle imported my contact list but I had to reduce it from the 1200 records (synced with my Apple Mac) to 250 records which I usualy have on the older phone. Now all is working in perfect harmony. £219 for the cradle is better than the £300+ from Merc. If at all any criticism, the sound quality was better on my Nokia 6230i cradle but the phone was a dog and I wanted after 2 years to upgrade to something more with it. Recommend the ViseeO

iPhone in an 06 CLK 3g v 2g

Alfie,

Since you are the expert on these things I was wondering if you could help me.

I have an Apple iPhone (1st generation) which fits perfectly in the Mercedes Bluetooth Cradle for Apple iPhone (the one with the MMI cable on the side), address book uploads everything works great - so far so good.

Thing is, I want to upgrade the phone to the 3g version. I tried my mates 3g iPhone, paired OK etc except it doesn't seem to click into place t the top of the phone do I think to the curvature of the back of the 3g phone not engaging with the trigger that clicks the head retainer into place?

Is there a trick to get the 3g to fit this cradle? (cradle is only 1 mth old)
Any insights?

thanks in anticipation

Is Viseoo better than the official MB adapter that the phone plugs into rather than over BlueTooth. I thought I'd prefer the official once so I can charge my phone as I drive but if I had an iPod Integration kit also then that would solve the charging requirement?

The official fixed cradle for the 3G iphone can be interfaced into an ipod kit so you get ipod and phone all in the one device. The Viseeo is strictly a bluetooth phone cradle thats all.
