Hello everyone.
I have 2013 e class coupe in which I have my IPOD fitted to the USB port in the centre console. Works fine but the IPOD is starting to skip and lock up. Signs of hard drive failure.
I don't want another Apple but would like to use a Sony Walkman NWZ-E585 model. (16GB)
Two questions,
1/ Does anyone have this model player in their car, and if so, any issues?
2/ Does anyone use any other non IPOD mp3 player, if so, do you have full functionality as per the IPOD? ie via the steering wheel and the centre console control dial?
Thanks for any advice
Vic

Update

Looking through my radio options I thought I could just try a 8BG memory stick.
I opened up ITunes and selected all the songs I wanted and pasted into the stick, making sure they were all MP3 files.
It works! In fact it actually works better than the IPOD. The radio in the car will shuffle, show the artwork and title names. It even has a better sound quality. The bonus is that where the IPOD always played the same songs on shuffle and started at the same place when I switched on. I now hear songs on albums I never heard before - bonus.
Saves me buying a player.
Cheers

Thanks for this, Vic. I thought I had tried every possible permutation to get my Audio20 to play MP3s, but maybe I didn't try the simplest thing ie. a memory stick. Encouraged by your post I've just done a little experiment, and just like you I also managed to get everything working including artwork etc. And as you say, sound quality is pretty good.

I think what threw me previously was that my memory sticks are normally Mac-formatted, and those don't work, so probably that's where I just left it. Whereas now I went and formatted one stick with Windows, and hey presto it works! :)

I also tried using folders (to get some 'playlist' functionality into it) and they do work but the system seems to be a bit confused by them. Still, I can live without them, or maybe I'll figure out how to make them work.

I must say this was a refreshingly easy and pleasant experience after all the trouble I've had trying to get various iPods, iPhones, etc. to play ball with Audio20. They all work, but only just, and never quite do the job properly. My opinion up to today was that the MP3 capabilities of the Audio20 were flaky to say the least; this has now improved considerably.

And yes, I realise people will come out and tell me it's a case of RTFM and all that, and no doubt it's me being flaky and not the system, but I don't care, I'm happy. :p

Go into your library, select the tracks you want, right click, "Create mp3 version".

The files should be in the Music folder of Windows or OSX. Copy all to your stick, done.
