I'm almost embarrassed to ask this - given the number of ipod questions I just found when I searched.... but I can't find an answer to this specific question.

I've got an audio 20 with cd changer connections - but the previous owner took out the changer.

Does anyone know of an ipod connection that will connect straight to the, now free, connectors?

All I can find are connectors that (as far as I can tell) require me to rip out the console to get to the back of the radio :-(

many thanks,
john.

Dension Gateway 500, a bit pricey, but connects into the D2B Fibre Optic loop of the CD-Changer and allows you to use an Ipod and a Hard Disk/USB stick which is treated like a CD-Changer. Very quick to install and so far mostly fault free (had to reboot by fuse removal a couple of times as it became locked up). As long as you have power connections you could install it where the CD-Changer used to be.

If you have an Audio20 and your car is an A/B/C/CLK/ML/GL or R class then the factory ipod kit will work in your car. If your car is an E/CLS then it wont unless you have Comand.

If you do have an E/CLS with the fibre, power and wakeup cables with audio20 then Dension might do a product for you. Your car will be MOST based not D2B if you have audio20.

I find it odd that someone left the cables there because this would break the MOST ring and render anything else on the ring, useless.

I had good experience with a Dension Gateway 500 in my 2004 CLK. It is a D2B based system to the Merc solution for IPOD was not an option. I can control the songs and play lists via the steering wheel controls but I don't get any artist or song info displayed. Just a track number and CD. Once you learn the Denision user interface it is easy enough to use.

If you have a MOST bus I would go for the Mercedes solution. It should display more artist/song information on the dash from the ipod and even be a little cheaper.

MOST Ring break?

Ring broken?
Well, It hasn't - Audio20 still works OK - but I don't know what else is on the ring?

I can see the pretty red light flashing in the cable so definitely still connected.

cheers,
John.

If you can see red flashing light then the ring is broken as with it connected, you cant see a thing as the ends are not in view.

For the head unit to see a Cd changer then the AGW in the head unit needs to be programmed to recognise a CD changer on the MOST bus. We have enabled a few cars for customers who have Dension systems but just need the car to be told there is a CD changer present.

Your car is an 05 C class I presume from your signature. So it is MOST based.
fitting a genuine ipod kit is very straight forward and will give you the most functionality/flexibility.

Is Phone on MOST ring?

Thanks for that Alfie,

I've just got a phone cradle and it doesn't work - is the phone on the MOST ring too and thus it's not working due to CD changed connection dangling?
()I asked this in a different way on a diff question so apologies)

many thanks again,
John.
