irregular idle,

Greetings,
I have a 280 wagon 1994 w/260000 Kms, automatic (sport, whatever that means). She has a very irregular idle. It didn't use to be all the time but now it's pretty much every time we use it.
It's as if the car had hiccups and feels as if she might stall but doesn't.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I should mention that if I push on accelerator pedal a bit to up the revs it is no longer noticeable or when in traffic if I put it in neutral it's less noticeable.

Could be an air leak on the intake side somewhere, sounds a bit like your "hunting"
