Here's some brilliant Merc engines, but just a nice clean ordinary engine bay is great.

Yes its important, doesn't have to be shiny and painted up like an operating theatre, but cleanliness is important.

Clean car clean eng bay on a private sale, likely means a decent motor, I hate dirty cars. And would walk from buying. I also hate oil leaks. My latest motor ngtf has a few, I will be on fixing themduring next winter. Done cam follower covers and rocker cover, pretty sure rear crank or 1st motion shaft seal weeping but will be watching and sniffing till I sure.

I dont care if an engine bay is a bit dusty as long as theres no oil/fluid stains. I personally dont wash an engine bay as too many sensors wiring etc not designed sometimes to be flooded in a modern engine bay. Different I suppose if its a marque but then i would only dry clean it

I couldn’t disagree more. A modern engine bay is well equipped to protect the electrical side from water IMO.
The only item I normally cover is the alternator but also would not jet wash at high pressure either.

I clean the engine bay regularly. Don't take a jet washer anywhere near any of my cars though. Hosepipe only.

Have a few pics of some of my old ones. :)

The first is a 1989 190E, a work in progress at the time. The next is my 2013 W212 E63 with Alpha carbon fibre intake to try to help feed the bigger turbos and the last is of my 2017 W213 E63s, standard apart from the polished stainless steel slam panel.

Not got round to doing the current car yet but it's hardly done any miles at the moment. Hopefully soon...

It's the same engine as in the white one above anyway.
