£12k is top end for an 85 280sl but, then, 26k miles is v low - just loosening up. For that price it ought to be close to immaculate.

100k miles plus plenty is not an issue if it has been serviced regularly. So, don't be swayed by the low mileage. Go for one in v.g.c. Search on 107 or SL for some earlier threads on what to look out for.

Regarding reliability - no probs (in fact an absolute delight) for everyday use.

Many thanks for both your replies, both equally useful.

It seems that the car may be a little bit expensive but I think it is immaculate inside & out (but as this is my first venture I may not be the best judge)

Leading nicely into my next qu. would you recommend a classic car inspection or will an AA one suffice.

Any assistance much appreciated.

Hi Andy

Unfortunately for me I do not know a MB specialist.
