Is it ok to drive with exhaust EGR valve stuck open?

My engine light came on and my a class W176 is now in limp mode.
A Mercedes tech came out and diagnostic and testing said it’s the EGR valve in the exhaust and it’s stuck open.
The tech said it was ok to keep driving it but some say it’s not ok.

The car is booked in for next week but I still need to get around. Is it ok for a few days?

It's only passing dirty exhaust gases back around into the engine . Doubt it it'll harm anything more than maybe a few blue tits and bumble bees. ?

Are you sure it's not closed? Stuck open will blow all the charge out straight out vi's the exhaust so you will have no boost at all.

I have no clue. The tech told me it’s open. He said if it was closed it would have aweful performance and most likely stall.

The engine light went off again by itself and it’s no longer in limp mode. Maybe it froze stuck?? It happened when we had -5 here

At least I know what it is now if it happens again

Cool. I’m guessing the tech mixed it up then.
It drove fine apart from being in limp mode

Comment. Not unusual for these to stick just a little open. This still allows for quite good drive-ability but results in copious black smoke. Loss of some measured inlet air kinda upsets the air/fuel mix.

The ones on the old diesels yes, but the newer ones on this A class I've never seen partially open.

Quite the opposite - a closed EGR makes it less likely to stall. And the performance would probably be better if it wasn't in limp mode!
