of the same size?

I currently have a c180 (w204) and I'm about to order some 19x8.5" alloys. My question is it wise to have say, 225/35/19 Front and 255/30/19 Rear tyre sizes on the alloys or should I just stick to the same size for both front and rear?

thanks. :)

Soz, just re-read your post.

Dif tyre sizes usually go with dif rim widths, not uncommon with MB Sport opnions

I had the same size tyres on my C180 (203) now long gone ,it killed the ride quality and made steering at low speeds notchy/snatchy but did improve the road holding .

Welcome to the forum. 19" will give you a vrey hard ride with a sidewall height of only 76mm

Agreed - wonder if F1 cars would have low profiles if it was a good idea.

All show and no go if you ask me.

They do, just not as low as some car tyres.
You cannot compare a F1 car with road cars, they are built to operate under completely different conditions and adhere to different regulations.

Perhaps they should put lots of pot holes and bad road surfaces on F1 tracks.

What I failed to mention is that it's a sports model which comes with slightly larger rear wheels (if I'm not mistaken). I'm still torn between ordering same size all around or slightly larger rears.

When you say the same tyre sizes, do you mean the different front and rear examples I gave above?

If the rims go 1" bigger then the profile of that tyre goes down 1 size so that the overall diameter stays the same

I was thinking more in terms of width, Malcolm.

it works the same way JEZ

For instance on my car I can use 255 wide tyres all round, the profile then would be 40. If I put on wheels and tyres on the rear say 285 wide, then you drop the profile down to 35, then the rolling diameter stays the same

So with the 255 x 40 tyres I have a sidewall height of 90mm.

285 x 35 will give a height of 97.75 and that is as near as you can get
285

That doesn't quite scan with the issue I had when I first got my ML, Malcolm. If you remember, I first posted on here.

My CC wasn't working properly (kept disengaging). Someone asked me to ckeck my tyre sizes. Fronts were 20/40/285 and rear 20/40/295. I changed them all to 20/40/295's and CC worked properly again. No problems since.

The ML could be a border line case, and it should have 295 x 40 or 45 all round. The 4 wheel drive couls be critical on your ML.

The difference back and front was it did not like

Both mine and the wifes cars have the staggered wheel set up with different size tyres front and rear.
