I’m looking for a little help regarding The size of my tyres. At the minute I have the standard 16” wheels with the original size tyres all round.

I’m Purchasing a set of staggered 18” AMG wheels.
The fronts are 8” and the rears are 9”.

Being that the car will be lowered 30mm all round, will the fronts at 245/40/18 cause me any issues or will the rears being a wide 295/35/18??

I don’t want them to rub along the rear arches or the fronts to rub when on full lock.

What would you recommend or will this setup be ok?? Thanks Rik

I’d only recommend wheel and tyre sizes for your car as listed inside your fuel filler cap.

That’s why I’m asking as I was wondering if the SLK 32 AMG had wider wheels. Because of so as there on the same body I thought it might not be an issue. But I don’t know what the standard tyre size is for them lol

Assuming you have an R171 SLK (2004-2011) the recommended widths for 18" AMG alloys are 7.5" fronts and 8.5" rears.

The tyres recommended for these rims are 225x40x18 fronts and 245x35x18 rears.
295's on the rear + lowering the car may well be a step too far.

Check out rim widths and tyre sizes for the R171 below
http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/mercedes_alloy_wheels/slk_class_r171_alloys

Be very careful that the ET (Offset) is the same or very close to the ET's recommended in the link above. Whatever AMG rims you are considering, the width alone tells they are not originally for the R171.

Those offsets are going to be reallly close to the arches.
I don't think they will fit, especially with wider rubber.

Thanks to the link. Do you think these wheels would fit with the size that you mentioned earlier? Or will they not fit at all without causing problems

The problem is not so much the width of the tyre although going oversized with both alloy and tyre will make it worse.
Its the ET that is the problem. Look at the link and see the recommended ET for an 18" AMG alloy front and rear.

You should be using alloys that have an ET37 front and ET30 rear
The ones you are looking at will be 17mm closer to the front wheel arch and will probably rub.

I can't say with 100% certainty of course, but they sound too close to me.

295 is too wide for a 9" rim. 265 is the maximum, 255 is the optimum.
Your real limit is keeping the overall diameter the same front and rear as if you don't it will cause cruise, esp and abs issues.

Our r230 only has 285s and that's on wider rims than yours.

Put the wheels on before you lower the car, wider wheels will make it look lower as the arches will be filled, you may have to roll the rear arches

I didn’t really want to have to do any alterations to the arches. I’m going to rethink my options and look into 17” rims now I think
