Hi
New to the site, just (Aug 07) bought a used E320 Sport from the local dealership. Just before Xmas I noticed the rear windscreen was only demisting 2/3rds (bottom to top). I never noticed this during the summer months. Took it into the dealers and they said it would have to a new one fitted under warrenty, once fitted I found a MB Genuine parts seal and filler ( unused) on the back seat. The car was left with bits around the seats etc. I complained and they made an attempt to clean it up. I though t that was that, during this cold snap I noticed it was only clearing 2/3rds again. Top cut a long story short...is there a problem with the New E Class rear windscreens ?
Any help on the above would be appreciated espicially the unused seal!

Bottom 3/4 ish?
- yes mine is the same. looks odd but I assume the top 1/4 is the radio ariel, not actually a HRW.
Assuming its the same and therefore normal, your dealer is a muppet.

My E clears the same as jberks however I do have an issue in that the third line up on the drivers side doesn't clear. It is only the 6" section on the drivers side however I'm going to speak to the dealer about it. I've already told then that when it's damp and I use the rear screen heater the radio reception becomes noisy so they can look at that at the same time.

Is there any way I could tell if a new one has been fitted, do they have a serial number if factory fitted ?

I take it in tomorrow for them to have alook at it, any ammo would be in my favour.
Thanks

only that you are asking them to fix a non existent problem.
3 out of 3 do the same so I assume it's normal. Come to think of it I'm pretty sure my dads mentioned the same thing on his so thats 4 out of 4.
MB glass isn't etched with anything distinctive afaik, but it aint broke so don't fix it.

S class
All your windows should have the same markings. also have a look at some other same year E class mercs and check if the glass markings are same as yours.. u could also ask to see the old glass and check another few cars as to how the rear window demists..breathing on the cold glass will indicate the heating elements

Just got back from the Merc garage and they told me the top part is for key, radio and sat nav etc. I had it explained to me by the Manager and I asked to speak to the technician, he gave me a copy from a manual explaining it all. I said that was good news then, smiles all round. I then explained I came to this garage in December with the same problem, so why did you replace it then ?
They both shrugged their shoulders and look at me as though I was going to come up with an answer.
Perhaps the were after the work as its still under warranty:D

Anyway thanks for the help to you all, I wonder whats going to happen next!

Key and radio yes, sat nav and phone no - they're driven by the shark fin on the roof.
I don't have a shark fin.. mine is definitely an Orca

I thought all the facelift Es had a shark fin now?
The one on mine goes through the screen with some kind of inductive arrangement but the facelift ones are higher up on the roof so I assume they're wired through the roof.

Could be wrong though.

It is wired through the roof, I was just saying it looks like an Orca breaching for air rather than a Shark Fin. :p
