Without giving too much away, myself and Mark S will be doing a feature on the SLR McLaren.

The SLR is such a unicorn car that many have never seen one in the flesh, probably never experienced being in or driving one and most dealers and independents would never have worked on them. I was lucky enough to be part of the protoytpe stage, worked in on its production and quality and have since stripped and rebuilt many. I've also driven every iteration of it including some of the later MSO offerings.

Because of that, its something that I can babble about quite naturally, but what I may consider relevant may not be of any interest to many people, so I thought, is there anything that anyone would like to know about it? As part of the feature, I would like to include or answer some of the questions that would be raised. Perhaps you have watched a couple of you tube videos where something has been covered but then wondered why?

Whatever it is, include it here and we'll see what comes out in the wash at the end. What I wont do is answer anything until its finished, so dont expect immeadiate answers here...!!

Over to you.

The one thing I always wondered was why that front end bonnet shape, it couldn’t have just been for the looks and notes to F1 could it, surely it was functional too I would have thought

Tbh most of the stuff on the tube is horrific.

Similar to the above, why is it styled the way it is (looks good but usually for many special cars there is a reason for it).

What parts are shared or enhanced from other models and what is bespoke. How was the r&d done between Merc n McLaren.

Who was the target market and what was its competition in that sector at that time.

Where have the designers and accountants gone the extra mile and where have they had to cut back.

What do you think are it’s short falls and strengths.

What’s is like to live with on a regular basis.

If one buys one, what to look for and how to best maintain it going forwards.

I know modern advances are staggering with the current crop of mainstream road rockets and super cars but, it would be nice to hear how it’s individuality stands out even today.

Perhaps any celebrity owners. (IIRC from an old report, it’s the one Donald Trump likes to drive the most from his collection )
