I had an email from someone earlier this evening enquiring about buying our car. Out of courtesy I replied to him that we already have two people interested in buying the car, but if he wanted to I would get back to him if neither of these prospective buyers bought the car.

So just now I got this reply from him, to me it sounds pretty much like a scam and even if it isn't it's pretty weird

Thanks for the mail i know you will be a honest person in this transaction.I am okay with the car And I am from UK but the item would be going to Spain I want you to know that i will entrust you with the shipping money which is just £1200 and it will be added to the money that would be transferred into your account the reason for this is because the shipping company accept cash only and i am out of the country right now for business trip. so i will like you to get back with this information so that i can forward it to my bank to transfer the money into your account.

YOUR FULL NAME
FULL ADDRESS
BANK NAME
YOUR FULL ACCOUNT NUMBER..

My bank made me to know that they would send you a confirmation through your email so after you have gotten the confirmation from my bank. The money will take just 48hours to cleared into your account and before that 48hours ..You have to provide a proof to my bank that if you get the money you will not run away.

The shipping company also made me to know that i have to register the pick-up before they can come for the pick-up and you have to sign a form that would be send to you so you can have it filled , it would be scanned and send to you and you can send it back to the shipping company through there email.

That registration form is what would be provided to my bank so they can know that they are coming for pick-up in your country and committed for the pick up. But you have to pay £300 to the shipping company as soon as you get the confirmation email from my bank stating that the money has been deducted from my account and when the shipping company comes to your house for the pick-up you would give them the balance of £900EUR okay.

The money would be transferred into your account before the shipping company come for the pick up of the item. When the bank as get the transfer done they would send you a confirmation email that the money as been transferred but the money would not reflect in your account until you send the £300 to the shipping company details and provide the information to my bank your money will booked into your account.

So i hope you understand all what i have said and if you have any question about that pls let me know as soon as possible.

I wait to read from you soon

sounds very much like a scam, I think what happens is the shipping Co is just a friend of his, he posts a cheque to your bank (that shows as just a payment into your account) that will bounce but mean time, you have just handed over 1200 CASH to the shipping agent

I know that we're probably headed for monetary union, but didn't realise we were there already.

I was helping my girlfriend sell a car a couple of years ago now. Though we would give auto trader a try, it was on for 3 weeks and we had 1 serious call that planned to view and diddn't show up or have the common decency to say they wouldnt. The rest were a load of nigerian scammers asking to transfer funds etc etc.

The last two cars we have sold in the local paper and they have been gone within the week and cost a fraction of the price of auto trader.

Scams usually seem plausable but this one preys on the desperate.I had the same one when I sold a car through Auto-Trader.Anyone who says "I am happy to pay your asking price without seeing the car" is either daft or a scammer who lacks nous. Delete the mails and laugh..:p

the scammers always use the same lines, far to formal but i guess a few still fall for it.
i would recommend looking at http://www.419eater.com/ as there are some very clever people on that site that manage to scam real cash out of the scammers (just for fun)!
It is so funny and they will help you to scam the scammer.
I know many of you on here are clever enough to lead the scammers on a wild goose chase and would love to read the story . read some of 419eater and you will understand.

Realising his mistake he takes the lot over to Dublin & walks into a bar & says "Excuse me could you change an £18 note please"

To which the bartender replies.........."certainly what would you like 3 Sixes or 2 Nines"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you ever thought it might be them damn Bulagians AGAIN!!!!!
